Challenging negative views

Challenging negative perceptions about mental illness

People with mental health problems say that the social stigma attached to mental ill health and the discrimination they experience can make their difficulties worse and make it harder to recover.

Moving Mind project

Public Health and Arts Development Team of Medway Council  working with   “Moving Memory Dance Theatre company “,local peer support groups and mental health services  created an innovative project to challenge Stigma

The Moving Mind project was set up with the aim of co-writing a narrative using dances theatre, digital media and film to challenge negative views about mental illness.

At the end of 10 weeks project, the participants performed in front of an audience.

A group of people from a mixture of backgrounds came together to share stories of lived experience of mental illness and discovered something in common: a wish to tell the world to look again and realise we are as normal as anyone else. Through dance, movement, music film and words, we've discovered new ways of expressing ourselves and would like to share some of this with you today. We've had a great deal of special moments while making work together - we hope you enjoy it.  This is their story:
