Smoking in pregnancy

There are over 4000 chemicals in tobacco. Would you let your child into a room containing 4000 chemicals, 60 of which you know can cause cancer? Of course not.

If you smoke during pregnancy, your baby will be in the womb with all those chemicals and as a result may not grow and develop properly. He may also have learning difficulties because those chemicals can interfere with brain development.

Support is available...

Medway Stop Smoking Service provides a specialist service for pregnant women wanting to stop smoking. Our friendly advisers offer one-to-one appointments at various times and locations in Medway. Partners or other family members may also attend.

We understand the challenges that women face when trying to quit smoking and tailor our service to meet your individual needs. It is our aim to provide a relaxed and discreet environment where you feel comfortable to discuss your smoking habits. This specialist support is free and confidential.

Pregnant smokers are able to use nicotine replacement therapy to help manage cravings. This  is far safer than continuing to smoke as you will just be receiving nicotine and none of the other harmful chemicals. We will provide support to help you quit, whatever stage of pregnancy you are at.
