Secondhand Smoke Information and Advice in Medway

Secondhand smoke

Secondhand smoke (SHS) is the smoke exhaled by a smoker and the smoke that leaves the lit end of a cigarette.

Our Secondhand Smoke leaflet includes facts about SHS, thirdhand smoke, and advice to remove exposure to others, especially children.

You can also join the many families in Medway who have made their home and/or car smokefree by making a Smokefree Homes pledge.
  • On 1 October 2015 a new legislation banning smoking in cars with children under 18 came into force.
  • Research has shown that when the windows are closed and the fan on, levels of chemicals were more than 200 times higher than safety guidelines and the amount of the poisonous gas Carbon Monoxide (CO) was two to three times higher than on a busy road at rush hour.
